TED Talk: Art with wire, sugar, chocolate and string

The TED talk video I watched was about Vik Muniz, a brazillian born artist. His works were quite unique and unusual in which he used unexpected materials such as yarn, chocolate, sugar, wire, cotton and many other things to create portraits, landscapes, and still-lifes. The materials forward connections between what he is visually presenting and the underlying messages he wishes to convey about his subject matter. For example, the artist created a clown skull saying that it was a representation of a “very evolved race of entertainers.“ I found it really funny how he was able to joke about his artwork even though the meaning behind the clown skull was something completely different. I interpreted the skull to be a representation of death and the big clown nose as a way of portraying clowns or jokesters as being scary. In a way you could look at any of Muniz’s works and everyone would have their own interpretation of what they think it means or represents.
